My Review: I received this book last year at BEA and I am not sure what took me so long to read it. This was a really good story with very likable characters. I even read most of the book with a french accent, I was totally unaware I could. I appreciated Gosling not pushing the romantic angle too much (yet! There is a sequel) and allowing the reader to walk away and draw their own conclusions. The Diamond Thief used a charming example of bookending - Rémy's performances beginning and ending the story were skillfully used to draw the reader into Rémy's world.
THE DIAMOND THIEF is a British import and one of the first books from Switch Press, a new YA imprint from Capstone. It switches between the points of view of Rémy Brunel, a trapeze artist and thief, and Thaddeus Rec, a policeman. Both of them are after a diamond - Rémy to steal it and Thaddeus to recover it. Sharon Gosling has 39 books on Goodreads with ratings. Sharon Gosling’s most popular book is The Diamond Thief (The Diamond Thief, #1). Recommended by a relative who knows the author, The Diamond Thief proved to be an ejoyable excursion into the more bizarre aspect of Victorian 'inventions' with a dastardly villain to spice up proceedings.
